Medical Weight Loss

Specialist-led weight management, including Wegovy® and Mounjaro®

Dr Jess Mok offers medical weight-loss treatment for patients seeking a non-surgical approach, or expert guidance when deciding between medication and bariatric surgery. Medical weight loss involves more than prescribing injections: safe care requires appropriate selection, dose titration, monitoring, and a long-term plan to reduce the risk of weight regain.

Prescribed treatments

What is medical weight loss

  • What it is

Prescription medication alongside nutritional and behavioural support to help regulate appetite, satiety, and long-term weight management.

  • How it helps

    * Reduced appetite and cravings

    * Increased fullness and portion control

    * Improvements in metabolic health (in suitable patients)

  • How care is delivered

    Medical assessment and suitability checks

    Safe dose escalation and monitoring

    Plan for plateaus and maintenance

Wegovy® contains semaglutide, a GLP-1 receptor agonist taken as a once-weekly injection. It can reduce appetite and cravings, increase satiety, and support weight loss in appropriately selected patients

  • Reduces appetite and cravings

  • Increases feelings of fullness

  • Slows gastric emptying

  • Supported by large clinical trials

Mounjaro® contains tirzepatide, which acts on both GLP-1 and GIP receptors and may provide enhanced appetite suppression for some patients. Suitability and tolerability vary and require specialist assessment.

  • May reduce hunger more strongly in some patients

  • Improves satiety and eating control

  • Significant weight loss seen in clinical studies

  • Individualised dosing and monitoring

Medication is prescribed only when clinically appropriate and safe. Not all patients are suitable, and follow-up is an essential part of care.

Medical weight loss may be appropriate for patients who:

  • Have struggled to lose weight with lifestyle measures alone

  • Are considering injections and want specialist-led care

  • Are not ready for surgery or wish to avoid surgery

  • Have plateaued or regained weight on injections

  • Have medical conditions requiring careful oversight

Medical vs surgical options

Medical weight loss and bariatric surgery are complementary. Dr Jess Mok helps patients understand expected results, risks, and long-term options so they can choose the most appropriate pathway.

Plateaus & optimisation

Coming off injections safely

Some patients prefer not to use injections long-term. Stopping abruptly can be associated with increased appetite and weight regain. Dr Jess Mok supports patients with a structured approach to maintaining results.

  • Stopping suddenly may increase appetite and make weight maintenance harder. A plan reduces rebound risk and helps protect progress.

  • Weight trajectory, side effects, medical history, and what “maintenance” looks like for the patient.

  • Where appropriate, dose reduction may be considered with close monitoring and support.

  • Relapse prevention, sustainable eating behaviours, and consideration of alternatives (including surgery where appropriate).

What to expect

  • Medical history, current medications, and prior weight-loss treatments.

  • Discussion of Wegovy®, Mounjaro®, risks/benefits, and whether surgery may be more appropriate.

  • A personalised plan with follow-up and monitoring.
